Obituary of Bobbie Ann Benfield Gregory

Bobbie Ann Benfield Gregory, 86, of Columbia, SC, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 19, 2021 after a long battle with Dementia. Born in 1935 in Statesville, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Robert Benfield and Gladys Camilla Holland Benfield. 

Upon graduating from high school, Bobbie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where she served until marrying her husband, James (Jim) Gregory, Jr. Together they cherished a respected and loving 60 years of marriage until his death in October of 2015. She has lived in the Columbia area since 1976, having worked for the County of Lexington and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control in Columbia until retiring with the State in 1990.

An artist and avid pianist, she loved all music and had a beautiful voice she loved to share, even until the end. She will be extremely missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons, James E. Gregory, III (Ron) of Columbia, SC, and Daniel M. Gregory of North Charleston, SC. She was predeceased by her brothers and sister, John Richard Benfield, Robert Pressly Benfield, and Mary Frances Benfield Leonard.

A private ceremony will be held due to covid concerns. Interment will be at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery next to her husband. Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park is handling the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an Animal Mission or Rescue of your choice.
