Rebecca Williams

Obituary of Rebecca C. Williams

Rebecca Marzeiley Chaffin Williams, 99, went to Heaven to be with Jesus, her Savior, on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, passing away peacefully in hospice care at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

Rebecca was born to Martin Luther Chaffin and Ellen Rebecca Spratling in Barnesville, GA on April 24, 1922. She graduated from Gordon Military School in Barnesville. She retired from Fort Jackson after many years of civil service.

Rebecca was married to her late husband, Boyette Olynn Williams, for 32 years. She was interested in writing Christian articles and attended Christian Writers' Conferences. In her 60's, she enjoyed taking several journalism courses at the University of South Carolina. One of her devotionals was published in the Open Windows devotional.

Her greatest decision was trusting Jesus to save her when she was 10 years old at the First Baptist Church of Barnesville. What a blessing that she walked with Jesus for 89 years! She was active there teaching Training Union classes, etc. She loved Jesus and wanted to worship and grow in the Lord. She, Boyette, and others helped start East Columbia Baptist Church. Later, she joined Shandon Baptist Church and has been a member for about 40 years. She wanted others to accept Jesus as their Savior and took opportunities to witness to them.

Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Donna Mulder (Dave); and her son, Scotty Spratlin, from her first marriage. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Stephanie Skelley (Jonathan), Melissa Gilliam (Tony), and Rebekah Williams (Sammy); and twelve great-grandchildren: Trevor Williams, Toby Skelley, Tucker Skelley, Sawyer Skelley, Joshua Antley, Ashlyn Antley, Zachary Gilliam, Israella Gilliam, Zander Gilliam, Raina Williams, Skylar Williams, and Lucas Williams; niece, Nancy Cosgrove (Johnny); two nephews; great nephews and a great niece.

Rebecca was predeceased by her sister, Lurlene Woodson; brothers, Tillman Chaffin, Aubrey Chaffin and Wesley Chaffin.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with visitation to be held at 1:00pm prior to the service. A graveside service will follow the funeral service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
