Obituary of Mary J Seyfer

Mary J Seyfer passed away on July 23, 2021 in Lexington, SC. Mary was born to Virginia and Peter A. Janetos on March 26, 1950 in Columbia, SC.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Lee Seyfer; and her son, David Eugene Lee Seyfer. Mary is survived by her son, William Anthony (Tony) Seyfer; her grandson, Dakota (Cody) Seyfer (Kaylee); her daughter in law, Tonya Hayes; and her sister in law, Shirley Story.

Mary Seyfer lived in the Lexington/West Columbia area and worked in food service her whole life. Her father owned a grocery store on Sumter Street. Mary absolutely loved living in the country and was a simple person by nature. She was a member of the Veteran’s Affairs Vietnam Combat Warriors Group, where she would help set up for events and provide meals for the group meetings. Mary loved being active outside and wearing her slippers whenever possible. She was very invested in the lives of those she worked with and everyone called her “Mama” for her role as peacemaker and caretaker in the family business. Mary was a strong-willed and independent woman who loved flowers, particularly trying to revive flowers that others would have given up on. When her husband passed, Mary took on the responsibility of caring for his dog, Boo. She was known for keeping a record of all of her family’s keepsakes such as report cards, newspaper clippings, and yearbook photos, especially those of her grandson, Cody. She loved all of her family deeply and unconditionally and made Cody her whole world. Mary will be deeply missed by her friends and family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 31, 2021 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC at 2:00pm. Visitation will begin an hour prior at 1:00pm.

The family requests that those who wish to attend, please honor her memory by following a casual dress code. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to make memorials, please send them to the Veteran’s Affairs Vietnam Combat Warriors Group in her honor.
