Obituary of Kathryn "Gene" Shultz Holloman

Kathryn “Gene” Shultz Holloman, 78, of Columbia, SC, passed away on July 12, 2021, with her family and close friend by her side. She was born to the late Deaderick and Louise Shultz on September 24, 1942 in Columbia, SC.

Gene graduated from Dreher High School in 1960 and received an associate degree from Palmer Business School. She was a substitute and special education instructional assistant for Lexington School District Two for 25+ years. Her love and passion for children with special needs was evident by the relationships she built with her students and their families, which continued long after they were her students.

She married Dannie Holloman in 1964 and lived together in Columbia with him until her passing. Gene is survived by three daughters, Tina H. Cox of Columbia, Tammy Altman (Ted) of Columbia, Tonya White (Jimmy) of Columbia. She is also survived by her sister, Joanna Matthews (Darwin); and her only niece, Kris LaBoon (Woody). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lacie Lybrand (Carter), Kelsey Belote (Jonathen), Timothy Altman, Kaylin White, Thomas Altman, Tyler Altman (Madelyn), Kinzie White, Turner Altman; and great grandchildren, Kylie, Corbin, Paisleigh, Kate, Jaxson, and Jeremiah.

Gene loved her family and was a very loving wife, sister, mom, aunt, Granny and friend. Gene battled cancer and several other health issues over the past few years but she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined and remained positive. When anyone else would have broken, Gene stayed strong. Through her, we saw what resilience and perseverance truly looked like. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 6-8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park and services will be on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
