Obituary of Phyllis Skidmore Drummond

Phyllis Skidmore Drummond, 82, resident of Gilbert, wife of James T. “Jim” Drummond, Jr, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2021 following a brief illness.

Born April 29, 1938 in Greenwood, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wade Lee and Lucille Davenport Skidmore. Phyllis was employed with The South Carolina State Legislature for many years where she retired. Following her retirement, she loved spending her days sitting on the porch overlooking the lake. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother was very proud of her family and loved them unselfishly.

Surviving in addition to her loving husband of 65 years are a son, David John Drummond and son-in-law, James Richard Carlson both of Columbia; a grandson, James Pierce Drummond; great-granddaughter, Brileigh Drummond; two sisters-in-law, Karen McCombs of Greenwood, SC and Patricia Skidmore Corley of Thomason, GA. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by a son, James Timothy Drummond; four brothers, Terry, Clyde, Donnie and Rudolph Skidmore and a sister-in-law, Ruth Hagood.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A private family burial will take place at Greenwood Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the Drummond family.
