Obituary of Vertie Mae Bachman Shirey

Vertie Mae Bachman Shirey, 93, resident of Lexington, widow of the late Elon O. Shirey, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2020.

Born August 25, 1927 in Lexington, SC, she was a daughter of the late Tillman and Levella Shumpert Bachman. She enjoyed sewing, especially crocheting, or diddling as she called it. She made some of the most beautiful blankets and bedspreads. Vertie loved to sit in her chair and snuggle under one of her handmade blankets.  Her greatest passion was her family. She was very proud of every accomplishment of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them unselfishly. She was a member of West Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a beloved member.

Vertie is survived by four sons, Wayne Shirey of West Columbia, Nathan Shirey, Aaron Shirey and Jerry Shirey all of Lexington; a daughter, Margie Shirey Stack of Lexington; a brother, Wesley Bachman of Lexington; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Due to current COVID-19 situations, a special interment was held. A memorial service will be held in early January 2021. These plans will be announced at a future date.
