Obituary of Edith Amick Horton
Edith Amick Horton, 88, resident of West Columbia, widow of the late William H. Horton, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020.
Born May 2, 1932 in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Brady Lee and Blanche Haltiwanger Amick. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and had a true green thumb for growing flowers. She was a good cook and enjoyed baking. Every evening meal included a homemade dessert. Her greatest passion was her family. She was very proud of every accomplishment of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them unselfishly. Edith was a member of Airport Church of Christ where she was a beloved member.
Edith is survived by a son, Alan Horton (Laurie) of Sugar Land, TX; two daughters, Anne Powlas (David) of Lexington, SC, and Karen Melton (Johnny) of Danville, VA; two sisters, Janice Holt (Jack) of Gilbert, SC, and Dorothy Whitman of West Columbia, SC. She also leaves behind four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers, Brenda Partridge, Gayle Linder, Robert Amick and Dean Amick.
A private family service will be held at 1:00 on Monday, December 28, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington with Mrs. Horton’s son-in-law, Dr. Johnny Melton, officiating. Burial will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in repose on Saturday, December 26, from 2:00 to 5:00, and on Sunday, December 27, from 1:00 to 5:00 and anyone wishing to pay their respects may do so during those times.
