William Durham

William Carl Durham, Jr., 83, of Winnsboro, formally of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Medical Center.

Born July 27, 1937 in Indianapolis, IN, he was a son of the late William Carl Durham, Sr., and Margaret Barker Hoffman. He was a graduate of Palmer Business College and spent most of his career as an accountant in the marine manufacturing industry. He was a proud veteran having served in three different branches of the armed forces; Army, Navy and Air Force where he completed his military career. William also spent a number of years serving as a bus driver for Charlotte Catholic School where he loved helping to mold young lives and their future.

He was a member of Freemasonry for many years until his health prevented him from participating. He loved attending the Fairfield County Council on Aging’s Senior Center and fellowshipping with all of his friends. William was also a member of Washington Street Baptist Church where he was very active.

William is survived by two daughters, Audrey Wilson and Delydia “DeDe” Durham (Joe) both of Winnsboro; two sons, William C. “Billy” Durham, III (Tammy) of Blythewood and Christopher Burrel “Chris” Durham (Michelle Stone) of Winnsboro; five sisters, Wilma Storey, Linda Hughes and Sharon Erdel, Mary Lou Overstreet and Patricia Browning; two brothers, Jim Durham and Donald Hoffman; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family. William was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph D. Corteville and John Durham, and two sisters, Margaret J. Holten and Carla Joann Skelton.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, August 7th, at Washington Street Baptist Church in Winnsboro. The family will receive friends from 11 AM till 12 PM prior to the service. A service with Military Honors will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at a later date.
