Obituary of Vellius B. Barrs, Jr.

LEXINGTON - Vellius B. "Junior" Barrs, Jr., age 85, son of the late Vellius B. Barrs, Sr. and Julia Bell Barrs, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at Lexington Extended Care Center. He was the husband of Martha A. Barrs. They were married 64 years. His children are Mark Timothy Barrs (Marchelle) and Marsha Scott (Keith). He has one brother living, Glenn Barrs. He had a brother who passed away, Larry T. Barrs, Sr.    

Mr. Barrs, Jr. was a carpenter for 65 years following serving in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea and then served two years in the National Guard. Mr. Barrs, Jr. was a deacon and member at Edmund First Baptist Church.  He was an avid Clemson Tigers fan and loved to speak of his beloved Tigers to all. He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play football. In his free time, Mr. Barrs, Jr. could be found playing golf or gardening. He was a skilled craftsman and could build anything. Above all, his greatest joys were his faith and his family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Edmund First Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2020, with visitation to take place from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Burkett, Brent Craig, David Faust, Mike Palmer, Mike Spradlin and Walter Young.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Extended Care Center - Azalea Circle and MSA Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Mr. Barrs, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Edmund First Baptist Church, 6256 Edmund Highway, Lexington, SC 29073 or Bethel Baptist Church, 113 Bethel Road, Monetta, SC 29105.
