Kathy taught me Typing I and II, Accounting I and II, Office Procedures I and II, and Shorthand I and II at Airport High School but she was more than a teacher. She was a special friend, my mentor and confidant for 37 years. There was no one quite like her. I have her to thank for so much. We have shared so many special times together and even the sad times. Such a special lady with a special talent for teaching and helping others. I spent many precious times with Ralph, Kathy and her boys through the years. My mother kept her boys when they were in elementary school and we have been very close since. I love you Kathy Sue Mixson and I am so thankful I got to see and talk to you two weeks ago at MUSC. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see you here on earth and tell you how much I love you but so thankful!!!! Life will not be the same without you but I am so blessed to have known you. Until we meet again my special friend.... Much love, thoughts and prayers are with Ralph, Bucky, Ted and Michael during this difficult time.

I am so sad to hear of Kathy’s passing. She was a true friend and mentor for my 13 years at Airport High. Kathy picked me up many times during some difficult times, and she was always willing to lend her soft shoulder and listen to my woes! I had truly hoped the “clan” would get together again to share old memories, but God had a different plan for her, I guess. May He wrap his arms around you all now and give you peace! We will all miss her!

I was very lucky to know Mrs. Mixon all my years at Airport. She taught my computer class my first year and then was a teacher of one of the groups/clubs in which I was a member. I have super fond memories of her and know she will be terribly missed.

Kathy was my typing teacher at Airport and I always admired her. She was the type of teacher who inspired her class. She also was active in FBLA ( Futire Business Leaders of America). I owe so much to Kathy and would like to express my heartfelt condolences to family, friends, former students, and all who knew her, at this time. May God's angels embrace you in your heavenly home.

Kathy had a wonderful impact on my life and many others. She continually advanced Career and Technology education and provided us with the means to teach what was current and relevant to our students. She left an unforgettable imprint on education and with the friendship she so gratuitously shared.

Mrs. Kathy was a true friend and coworker! I will never forget our workouts at curves in Pelion, lunch after a busy day in Adult Education, swimming with my kids and her grands at her pool! She truly loved her boys and their families and her grandchildren! She had her sweet Ralph who she adored and mentioned often in conversation. She was indeed one of a kind and will truly be missed by all who knew her over the years! Love and prayers to this sweet family! ❤️
