....One of the nicest honors ever bestowed on me was a surprise going away party that Sgt Major had for me on his lawn in a 40 man tent. I got to know Gary when I was project manager for the new golf course and clubhouse on base. He had me sit between him and a 3 star general at the formal dedication ceremony. I wish we had kept in touch. Even though it has been awhile since his passing, my thoughts and prayers remain with you. .......Rick Connor.....Shelby, NC

I didn't know Gary personally but my mother knew him and he was a good and kind man, he will be missed heavily. I know he sees us from above and wishes to comfort us. I'm just grateful my family would have another angel watching over us.

I was and am deeply saddened to hear of Mr Jones passing.
He was my boss at Ft Jackson and if it had not been for Mr Jones taking me under his wing per say and sending Mrs Rast over to help me better understand the government way of doing things in bingo there at the NCO Club when he first hired me I would have told him ---- I quit !!! LOL !!! He sat me down and told me that he had spoken to Mr Carter ( I was told Mr Carter too has passed suddenly ) and they had decided to send Mrs Rast over to actually work with me and to fully explain how the government wanted bingo to be done. I must say again if it was not for Mr Jones ..........VICTORY BINGO would never have become a reality !!!
Mrs Rast literally stayed there at the NCO Club with me at bingo for several weeks explaining all the minute details and all and answering all of my questions whilst Mr Jones talked with me daily on bingo days checking with me to make sure everything was going good !!!
He went out of his way and way beyond what the average General Manager would have done to make sure I understood the system. Subsequently he and I formed a special relationship that I will cherish and never forget.
I learned things about the presentation of food and dealing with people that I will never ever forget and it's all because of him.
He always amazed me too on those 4th of July Celebrations because he seemed to work nonstop. I think at times it seemed like to me he was the hardest working man on Fort Jackson !!!
He was a great man indeed !!!
They don't make em like Mr Jones anymore !!!
"Go rest now Mr Jones ......... your job here is done sir !!! "
I remain as always,
Respectfully,
Larry Rogers

I am so saddened by the death of Mr. Jones. He was my neighbor for 20 years. He was the BEST neighbor anyone could have asked for and a good person. I felt protected having him next door, because caring neighbors are a rarity. His warm smile and friendly presence will be missed dearly in our neighborhood.

I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. Gary and I worked in the same organization for many years, and I can truly say he was always the same as when I first met him. He was a superb manager and chef; he gave me many tips on preparation of those "signature" dishes that I enjoyed so well, my favorite being liver and onions which he ensured was on my retirement luncheon menu. I will truly miss him!
