Obituary of Clarence C. Ross, Jr.

Columbia—Clarence C. Ross, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on February 28, 2019 with his loving wife Marty Ross and other family members by his side.  Clarence was born on April 11, 1930 to the late Clarence C. Ross, Sr. and Mary Couch Ross.  Clarence began his career in the United States Air Force in 1948 where he demonstrated his technical knowledge and ability to perform in his career field earning several major awards and decorations.  After his retirement from the USAF, Clarence went into business for himself before beginning his twenty year tenure with the SC State Government.  Clarence loved to work in his yard tending to his roses, feeding his birds, and was always willing to help someone in need.  Clarence was the patriarch of an enormous family and set an example for his children on how to be loving and supportive husbands, fathers and individuals.  He instilled in all those he met the values and importance of working hard and being independent.

Clarence is survived by his wife Marty, Sons, Jack (Sandra) Ross, Larry (Cindy) Ross, Bert (Lynne) Ross, Daughter, Sharon (James) Gambrell, Son, Steve (Nancy) Westberry, Daughters, Shirley (Jim) Salter,  Sheila Westberry, and Anthony (Kimberly) Crawford.  He is also survived by 28 Grandchildren, and 15 Great-Grandchildren.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Allean Evans Ross, Daughter, Janet Ross Loggins, Grandson, J Ross, Son, Tim Westberry, and Granddaughter Lindsay Salter.

Services honoring Clarence will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Temple Baptist Church, 806 Universal Drive, Columbia, SC 29209 at 2:30 p.m. with burial immediately following at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
