Richard M. “Dick” Smith
Lexington - Richard M. “Dick” Smith, 89, of Lexington, SC passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018. He was born September 20, 1929 to the late Nicholas Smith and Sallie Spiegner Smith. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Dick was a dedicated member of Eau Claire Presbyterian Church, serving faithfully over 50 years in various roles including Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and Deacon Emeritus, and in the last 15 years most known as the Candy-man Greeter.
Dick, along with his wife, was instrumental in organizing the Lexington County Recreation Girls Softball League where they coached jointly for 30 plus years. Dick was a founding member and first serving Chief of the Round Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
Dick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma H. “Sudie” Smith; daughters, Leatha Goodwill (Don) and Krista Smith; numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by four sisters, one brother and one half brother.
The family will receive friends at Eau Claire Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow in the Eau Claire Presbyterian Church sanctuary at 12:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Eau Claire Presbyterian Church at 629 Wildwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29203.
