Obituary of Jane R. Gregory

Jane R. Gregory, 66, of West Columbia, SC, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born July 6, 1952, in Elizabeth, NJ, to Harold and Nathalie Patton Ready, who predeceased her.

Jane graduated from Dorman High School in Spartanburg in 1970 and The University of South Carolina in 1973. She taught mathematics at Brookland-Cayce High School for more than 34 years. She was 1997 Teacher of the Year, TWC Star Teacher of the Year, and inducted into the BCHS Educator Hall of Fame in 2015.  After retirement she taught in the GED Adult Ed Program. She was an active member of Northside Baptist Church.

Jane is survived by her husband of 42 years, Phillip Gregory; son, David Gregory (Amber), granddaughter, Abigail Grace Gregory; brother, Dr. John Ready (Michelle); sister-in-law, Dr. Jean Taylor (Steven); and brother-in-law, Jacob Gregory, Jr.  She is also survived by nieces, Sarah Love Taylor (Dr. David DeWeese) and Lauren Ready; nephew, Michael Ready; and grandniece, Amelia DeWeese. 

The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jane Gregory Scholarship at BCHS Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2482, West Columbia, SC 29171; to Northside Baptist Church, 4347 Sunset Blvd., Lexington, SC 29072; or to the charity of one’s choice.
