Obituary of Ida Mae Attaway Nicholson
Ida Mae Attaway Nicholson was born on March 7, 1959 in Washington, DC to M.C. Attaway (deceased) and Minnie Mae (Watson) Attaway (deceased). She was raised in Johnston, SC and attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She was the single mother of two boys Lester (Maurice) Nicholson and Travis Nicholson. She had one grandson, Jaden Nicholson.
Due to declining health Ida moved to a skilled nursing facility in 2009. During this time she began to work on her goal of obtaining an Associates of Science Degree in Sociology. She successfully fulfilled this dream in 2017, when she completed the program and obtained her diploma. At the time of her passing she was a few credits short of completing her Bachelors of Science Degree. Ida was also an active member of the nursing home community. She was a member of the Resident Advisory Board and organized several drives to collect food, school supplies, and Christmas gifts for those in need.
In addition to her two boys and grandson, Ida leaves behind three brothers, Carlton Attaway, Dexter Attaway, and John Attaway; and one sister Bertha Hammonds; one Uncle (Robert Attaway); one Aunt (Ana Attaway); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Ida will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington.
