Obituary of Monika B. Lynn
Born in Heidelberg, Germany on January 8, 1945, Monika grew up in the city of Mannheim. She came to the United States in 1967 and made Columbia her home. For thirty years, until her retirement in 2000, she worked as a cataloguer at the Thomas Cooper Library where her precision and attention to detail made her a valued colleague and employee. After her retirement, she volunteered at Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital and the Washington Street United Methodist Church Soup Cellar. She loved birds and flowers, and enjoyed gardening, baking delicious cookies and cheesecakes for her friends, and watching her favorite British TV shows. Friends treasure the notes and cards she wrote them in her beautiful handwriting. Over the years, she had many pets, but none to match her beloved toy schnauzer, Liesl, who rarely left her side. Despite health problems in recent years, Monika remained her wise-cracking, generous, thoughtful self and her home was never short of visitors. Her proudest achievement was her son John, who, with his wife Trina, was her devoted caregiver. She is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Marshall Lynn.
A visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 10-11 am with a funeral service following at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oliver Gospel Mission, World Vision, or Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, where she was a member.
