Obituary of Richard H. Collins

Mr. Richard H. Collins, Jr, 75, of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully at home with his family on July 15, 2015. Mr. Collins was born in Florence, SC to the late Abbie Lee Collins and Richard H. Collins, Sr. He was a devoted husband, married to Peggy for 54 years. He was a devoted Father, Grandfather Brother, Uncle and Friend. He loved and cared for many dogs during his life and they loved him as well. He was a salesman for Dillard Paper Co/ Xpedx for 42 years. He was a member of several President and Chairman's council, and was elected into the company's Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Lions Club and served as President and Past - President. He was a tremendous supporter of Gamecock Athletics, a member of the Gamecock club since he graduated from the school in 1963. He was an avid golfer; he enjoyed playing in his Saturday morning dogfight at Columbia Country Club. He was an accomplished fisherman both salt and fresh water. He and his friend Ray Smith landed 2 sharks close to 500 lbs. each off of the Garden City Pier in the late 1950's. He was a great cook and great eater, not only what was on his plate, but what was on anyone else's plate with him. He enjoyed tailgating, dancing and music, especially Delbert McClinton. He was a true southern gentleman and he will be terribly missed by those left behind, however, there will be a lot of people happy to see him in heaven. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Peggy Collins; Son, Lee Collins (Barbara); Daughters, Lisa C. Smith (Austin) and Kellee C. Flores; Seven wonderful grandsons, Will (Nikki), Austin, Chris, Chad, Collin, Walker and Garrett; one wonderful great granddaughter, Charlotte; One sister, Mary Gay (Don); and a host of other nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends for visitation at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park located at 845 Leesburg Rd. in Columbia, SC on Friday July 17, 2015 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 18, 2015 at 11 AM at Living Springs Lutheran Church 4224 Hardscrabble Rd with entombment following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
