Lisa Smith posted a condolence
Wednesday, July 22, 2015
I am Lisa Collins Smith, one of his daughters, who was quite a "daddy's girl". He had such a gentle, caring and generous soul. My dad had 3 memorials listed and they somehow did not get in his orbituary, we had put them on the form. It was listed on the church program but I'm sure there are people who could not attend. I would like to list his wishes for memorials.
1. Living Springs Lutheran Church- 4224 Hardscrabble Rd, Columbia, SC 29223
2. Leukemia and lymphoma Society- 107 Westpark Blvd., Suite 150 Columbia, SC 29210
3. Parkinson's Association of the Carolinas- 5970 Fairview Rd, Suite 217 Charlotte, NC 28210
I would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers. It's means the world to us. I am the luckiest girl in the world to have had that wonderful man as my father. I will cherish all the memories I had with him. I am so greatful he was there to show his 7 grandsons what a real man is. He is missed more than words can say. I am greatful that he is at peace with no leg/foot pain or tremors. Daddy you are going to be missed but will be in our hearts.

He was everything to me! My heart is broken :broken_heart:! God shared with us the gifts of 3 precious children that we both loved unconditionally. I now value them even more as Dick lives on in each of them. Our grandchildren and great grandchild were so important to him. I pray they will all follow in his footsteps and be the very best they can be. I will forever cherish the time we had together and the precious memories we made. Thank you Dickie Collins for all you were, are and will always be to me.. I love you!!!!

Dick helped us so much when we started Gahagan Print Shop in 1972. He was always honest, friendly and helpful then and for many more years. Dick was a great friend, and my wife and I regret not being with you, his family, at this time. His passing is a great loss to all that knew him.

Dear Peggy and family of Dick:
I think Rhoda mentioned to you I was in Costa Rica (studying Spanish) when Dick died. Thank you for mentioning to her that the genre of illness we share in common did not turn out to be his cause of death. I was saddened to learn of this as I know, despite many setbacks, Dick really enjoyed life. What a gift—many do not have it to his extent... It was Dick who put me onto, so to speak, the LLS lectures for those of us to whom those lectures apply directly. They are not given so often anymore, unfortunately, or at least I don't hear of them from LLS.
I saw in his obituary that he liked the music of Delbert McClinton, a Texas boy. One of McClinton's highest rated singles was "Giving It Up For Your Love" which contains this lyric: "I'm givin' it up for your love honey, everything." I'm sure Dick and you shared these sentiments. Rhoda and I know you will miss him but we hope fond memories of good times shared together and as family will soften the grief that must now pervade.

Dick was one of my late husband's, Mike Truluck, dear friends. My heart goes out to Peggy and the rest of the family today. Many memories were shared between Dick, Mike and George Rabon. As I grew to know Peggy I realized how much the four of us had in common. To become someone's caregiver and wife is a gift. Peggy was a good and faithful partner. My love you al of you. Alice Truluck

Praying for peace and comfort for all family members and friends. The Turnmire family will miss Dick. Audrey and Evan always enjoyed visiting with him when they were over fishing.
