Obituary of Leonard D. Harrington

Leonard D. Harrington, Sr. died unexpectedly on August 13, 2015 of natural causes. Born on August 5, 1946, he was a son of the late Willie Oscar Harrington and Ruby Bryant Harrington Callahan. He was a hard working Christian man who loved the Lord and his family dearly. After finishing high school, he joined the Navy where he served on ships, Valley Forge and Bonhamme Richard. He retired from Delta Airlines after thirty and a half years of service. He officiated football for thirty-seven years with the South Carolina Football Officials Association, SAC, Major Independence and the SEC. He then went to work as a travel agent for the Athletic Department at the University of South Carolina and for the past twelve years was coordinating the University of South Carolina football practices and scrimmages as well as the replay official for all the home games. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Bonnie Chitwood Harrington; son, Leonard "Lenny" D. Harrington, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law; Kristi and Dave Thomas; and two granddaughters, Kassidy and Karley Thomas, whom he adored; four brothers, Fred (Lynn) and Larry (Donna) Harrington, Paul Kevin (Sheila) Bryant and Jimmy Walton; four sisters, Jean Ann (Joe) Rauch, Brenda Irick, Sara Mills and Millie (Joey) Connor. He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Koon Mahaffey. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073 on Sunday, August 16, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at City of Hope Worship Center, 1403 D Ave, West Columbia, SC 29169, where he faithfully attended, on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens.
