Obituary of Addie Ruth Dunlap Jackson

WEST COLUMBIA—Addie Ruth Dunlap Jackson peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Lexington Medical Center. The youngest daughter of John Sidney Dunlap, Sr. and Addie Caveny Dunlap, she was born on April 4, 1928 in York County, South Carolina. She finished Winthrop Training School in Rock Hill and graduated from Winthrop College with a degree in mathematics. She also held a graduate degree in Education from Clemson University. Mrs. Jackson was a devoted public school teacher for over 29 years and retired from Eastside High School in Greenville, South Carolina as the head of the math department. A resident of Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community since 2007, She enjoyed the many activities available there, particularly water aerobics. She also was an avid walker which afforded her the opportunity to visit with her many friends always with a smile and what a wonderful day she was having thus earning the nickname, "Mrs. Wonderful". She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Jean Dunlap Caldwell of Charlotte, NC, her children, Cathryne Lane and husband Don of Lexington, Teresa Baggott and husband Bill of Greenville, David Jackson and wife Phyllis of Greer, and Huanne Jackson of Asheville. Her loving grandchildren are Donald Lane (Lauren), Kara Lane Knight (JR); Hal Baggott (Erin), Alex Baggott (Katie), MaryRuth Baggott, Ali Jackson, Richard Jackson, Stephen Walker and Amy Walker. Great-grandchildren are Jackson and Lucas Lane, Austin and Andrew Knight, Matthew and Lydia Baggott. She is predeceased by her brother, John Sidney Dunlap, Jr., two sisters, Evelyn Dunlap Potts, and Estelle Dunlap Wimberly. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Still Hopes on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM preceded by a private burial at Laurelwood Cemetery in Rock Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Still Hopes Employee Assistance Fund. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
