Obituary of George Michael Rentz

Mike Rentz, 65, of West Columbia, South Carolina passed away March 28, 2018 in West Columbia. He was born on October 6, 1952 in Florence, South Carolina. Mike was a 1977 graduate of the University of South Carolina's Engineering School. From 1985 on, Mike successfully ran his own structural engineering firm, Rentz Engineering - The Strength Behind the Beauty. He loved his wife Iris, spending time with his family, playing chess, and building things they said couldn't be built. Mike was a man of God and lived his life believing that 'Wise men still seek Him'. Undoubtedly, Mike lived life happily and enthusiastically, and most certainly on his own terms. He passed on to the other side in peace surrounded by the people that love him. Mike is survived by his wife of 13 years, Iris; parents, George and Mary Ann Rentz and Tessie Guichard; mother-in-law, Mary Etta Bowlin; son, George Michael Rentz, Jr.; daughters, Margaret McCabe Rentz, Sara Rentz Krisnow (Seth); step-daughters, Tiffany Kirkland Williams (Ryan), Jill Kirkland Steinkruger (Geoff); sisters, Marty Rentz Johnson (Tommy), Mary Winifred Rentz; grandchildren, Olivia Krisnow, Irby Krisnow; step-grandchildren, Emma Williams, Anna Williams, Will Steinkruger; niece, Stephenie Johnson; close family friend and business partner, Jason Cothran (Meagan); and beloved K9, Lucy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Williams Rentz; and step-father, Albert "Buster" Guichard. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Interment will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saluda River Baptist Church, 3459 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, SC 29169.
