Obituary of JEAN GREGORY

Jean Kelly Gregory Greenville, SC Jean Kelly Gregory, 81, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, in Greenville, SC. She was born on January 15, 1929, the eighth of eleven children, to the late Annie Ester (Essie) Jones and Abe Branham Kelly in Kershaw, SC. On April 3, 1946, she married her childhood sweetheart, Robert E. Gregory, Sr. They moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where they lived until four and one-half years ago. Mrs. Gregory was a long time member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church and was active in the WMU and a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class. She loved gardening and was a past member of the Saint Paulias Garden Club. She was a retired employee of the South Carolina Tax Commission. Mrs. Gregory was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Gregory Stevens, a granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Bailey; her brothers, H. Albertus Kelly, Lawrence C. Kelly, W. Jackson Kelly, James A. Kelly, M. Kemper Kelly, Abe Jones Kelly and her sisters, D. Ruth Kelly-Stanley, Esther Kelly Gardner, Rebecca Kelly Bernie-Laird. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Robert E. Gregory, Sr.; daughters, Brenda G. Brodie (Judson, III), Sheila M. Gregory; granddaughters, Diane B. Nape (Steven), Elizabeth B. Schaufler (Jamie), Virginia B. Frick (Kelly); grandsons, Joseph G. Stevens, Brendan M. Brodie(Angie) , six great grandchildren, William J. Nape, II, Elizabeth M. Schaufler, Peyton S. Nape, Dylan L. Schaufler, Rebecca L. Frick , Glen A. Frick ; one sister, Rosalee K. Morgan and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel, in Columbia, South Carolina, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 with Reverend Travis Biller and Reverend W.L. Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. until the hour of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Members of the Baraka Sunday School Class at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer?s Association or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Piedmont Hospice of Greenville for their care of Mrs. Gregory. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements.
