Obituary of Edward Ray Backman

WEST COLUMBIA-Edward Ray Backman, 77 of West Columbia passed away on Monday, August 3, 2015. He was born on August 19, 1937 in Gaston, South Carolina to the late Horace and Linnie Sharpe Backman. Ray was survived by a brother, Levern Backman; and sisters, Patricia Roberston, Era Mullins and Betty Walling. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by his wife, Cathi Backman; son, Michael Backman; and two brothers. Mr Backman was retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service. He was also retired from the US Postal Service after 20 years of service there also. Graveside services will be held with full military rites at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family.
