Obituary of Pete Mills

Pete Mills, 90, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away August 4, 2015 at Palmetto Health Richland Heart Hospital Columbia, South Carolina. He was born on February 9, 1925 in Gilbert, South Carolina to the late Walter and Gertrude (Kelly) Mills Crapps. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, after returning home he spent the next 65 years working in the construction industry. He worked in residential construction for several years before becoming a project superintendent for several general contracting companies in the Columbia area; Stanley Smith and Son, Mashburn Construction, GMK Associates and Murphy Contracting. Pete was also a past member of the American Legion. Pete is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Vesta Ree Warren Mills; his daughters, Faye (Robert) Murphy, Susan (James) Dooley, Becky (Stanley) Pilot; grandchildren, Wendy M (David) Waters, Bradley (Kindra) Murphy, Timothy, Ashley and Zachary DeCleene, Logan and Jacob Dooley, Hope P. Posten, Andrew Pilot; great grandchildren, Mallory and Tucker Murphy, Andrea Waters, Rebecca McGee, Serena and Georgia Pilot, Rider Posten; his brother, William Mills; sister Mozelle Windham and Doris Shealy and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his step father, Ernest Crapps; his sister, Jesse Snook; and granddaughter, Katie Pilot. The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Donald Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Lexington Memorial Cemetery. The family wishes to offer their sincere appreciation to all the nurses, doctors and staff who took care of our loved one in the CVICU at Richland Palmetto Heart.
