Obituary of Marvin Edward Martin

Funeral services for Marvin Edward Martin, Sr., 89, of West Columbia, South Carolina will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, August 27, 2015, at the funeral home. Marvin Edward Martin, Sr., beloved husband to the late Estelle Marie Martin, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Born in Richland County on October 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Alexander Miles Martin, Sr. and Maude Hinnant Martin. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army. During his services in WWII he was awarded several metals. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Marvin is survived by his loving children, Diane D. Hutchinson of Lexington, Debra A. Gainey (deceased Donald Gainey) of Pelion and Marvin "Eddie" Martin, Jr. of West Columbia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lynn Harris (Terry) of Lexington, Linda McCarty (Jeff) of Cayce, Daniel Gonzales of Columbia, Brian Gonzales of Columbia and Janice McMillan (Ryan) of Lexington; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Marie Martin; sisters, Mildred Davis and Valeria Wilson; brothers, Alexander M. Martin, Jr. and Carl R. Martin.
