Obituary of Doris Marie Strickland Arnot
Doris Marie Strickland Arnot, 85, of Columbia, SC, born on October 9, 1929 in Charleston, SC passed away after a brief bout of dementia on September 6, 2015.
She was one of 14 children of the late John Martin Strickland and Agnes Riley Strickland of Charleston, SC. She performed on the radio for WCSC's "The Stars of Tomorrow" in Charleston for several years, and sang in many shows, weddings & funerals. She was a devoted wife for 62 years to Joseph Patrick Arnot, Sr. She dedicated her life to her faith, her family, and friends. She not only lovingly raised her five children, but truly loved helping with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous neighborhood children over the years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her so very proud and brought such great "joy" to her life. She was a current member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She and her husband shared a great love for music and sang together in Charleston and Columbia for many years. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Joseph Arnot, Sr.; her son, Joseph Arnot, Jr. (Cindy) of Lexington, SC; four daughters, Dorie Arnot of Columbia, SC, Mary Hudson (Francis) of Lugoff, SC, Anne Ruhfass (Tom) of Fairless Hills, Pa, Bridget Obley (Curtis) of Macon, GA; one brother, George Strickland of James Island, SC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lawrence Strickland of Charleston, SC; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews..

Visitation will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 1529 Assembly St. in Columbia, starting at 12 noon on Thursday, September 10, 2015, followed by the rosary. The Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A reception will be held, following the burial, at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia.
