Obituary of Goldie Marie Wyatt

CAYCE-Goldie Marie Roberts Wyatt died with her family by her side after a short illness due to congestive heart failure, on Friday, September 18, 2015. Goldie was born on November 30, 1936 in Bluefield, West Virginia, to Lessie Mae and Leroy Roberts. She attended Matoka High School and after her marriage, lived in North Carolina, and later moved to West Columbia, SC. The youngest of four girls, at five foot, two inches, Goldie stood tall and strong for all the people she loved. Feisty and determined, Goldie survived many battles with ill health after a heart attack in 1990. Goldie grew up in a world where hard work was expected, even as a child in the coal mines of West Virginia, where she cut pulp wood and hauled coal. Goldie worked in many manufacturing facilities including: Shakespeare, Horseman Dolls, Holly Farms, Argus Camera, PYA, before accomplishing her education as a working adult, finishing her high school education, and achieving a certificate in key-punch operation which led her to the University of South Carolina Computer Services Division, where she worked for 17 years until she retired in 1990. Her next career choice was head cheerleader for all of her grandchildren's activities. She and Carol would often haul themselves 4 hours north to King, North Carolina to attend football games, track meets, band concerts and every subsequent graduation. Banana pudding and other treats in tow weekends were spent with marathon card and board games. Her love and devotion truly knew no bounds. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Marie Wyatt Yarborough and her son-in-law, Steve Yarborough, their children Zack and Morgan Yarborough. She is also survived by a son, Terry A. Wyatt and her daughter-in-law Kayelynne Carter-Wyatt, their children, Chad and Jeremy (Katherine) Wyatt, and Brandi Wyatt (Steven) Mason; and two great- grandchildren, Noah and Asher. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. She was an avid Clemson Tiger Football fan who never missed a game either in person or on TV. She involved herself with charity work with Dickerson Children's Advocacy Center. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Dickerson Center, 1615 Augusta Road, West Columbia, 29169. A reception for family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 19 at the home of Carol Wyatt Yarborough. Visitation and a service will be from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. A service will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at Mulberry Tabernacle, 306 Tabernacle Road, North Wilkesboro, NC, with visitation one hour prior to the service
