Obituary of Amelia Gardner

Amelia Wingard Gardner, 90, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2015. Amelia was born on September 17, 1925, in Columbia, SC to Lawrence Barnwell Wingard and Allie Shealy Wingard. She graduated from Columbia High School and was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Transfiguration. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She also enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of the staff and many friends she met during the 10 years she participated in the activities at the Pine Ridge Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Johnnie "Red" Gardner; her brothers and sisters in law, Laymond (Lonnie) Wingard and Howard (Betty) Wingard. She is survived by her children, John Gardner (Vicky), Mark Gardner (Donna), Lawrence Gardner, Marie Gardner and David Gardner (Vicki); grandchildren, Billy Gardner (Conni), Beth Gardner Walker (William), Patrick Gardner and Jason Gardner; great grandchildren, Jackson Gardner and Cecilia Gardner; sister, Christine Wingard White; niece, Joyce Tate (Randy); nephews, Robert White (Christine), Ray White (Cary), and Mike Wingard (Flora); and many great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home, 200 State Street, West Columbia, SC. Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at The Lutheran Church of the Transfiguration, 1301 Twelfth Street in Cayce. Entombment will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lutheran Church of the Transfiguration, 1301 Twelfth Street, Cayce, SC 29033 or The American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive, Suite 301, Cayce, SC 29033.
