Obituary of Walter "Butch" Douglas James

Walter D. James, known as Butch, passed away on March 2, 2024. He was 78 years old.

Butch was retired from South Carolina Forestry Commission, where he worked in fire prevention. He was born and raised in Eastover, South Carolina to Lucy Lorick James and Benjamin Bates James Sr. He was a part time row crop and vegetable farmer. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed a good bargain, especially antique farm equipment and vehicles. 

He is predeceased by his parents; wife, Joan Huggins James; four brothers, Benjamin James, John James, Wayne James, and George James; stepson, Mitchell Huggins; and granddaughter, Michelle.

He is survived by sister, Linda Sweat; stepdaughter, Teresa Schiazza; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on March 15 at 11am in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209.
