Obituary of Janette VanBorsch
Janette (Jan) Herring VanBorsch, 72, was born on January 17th, 1951 and passed away on January 13th, 2024 surrounded by her husband and daughter. Jan was a retired educator with Midland’s Technical College for over 35 years and an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. She prepared taxes for over 35 years and considered her many clients to be family. Jan received her Master’s degree in Education from Georgia Southern University and loved teaching history. She was a member of the Basilica of Saint Peter Catholic Church in Columbia, SC where she attended for over 30 years. She was a member of the Airport High School Educational Foundation and supported several charities including St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, Oliver Gospel Mission, Ready to Love, and Sister Care. She enjoyed playing Canasta with friends, spending time with her family, and cheering her grandson on during soccer matches. She cherished her cats and loved to make people smile.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Donald VanBorsch; her daughter, Helen Welch (Hugh); her grandson, Joshua Welch; her stepmother, Mary Ann Herring; her brothers, Wilton Herring (Christi) of Canon, GA, Steve Herring (Kay) of Germantown, TN, Dave Herring (Maggie) of Memphis, TN; her brother-in-law, Mark VanBorsch; her sister-in-law, Kathy Rohrbach (Dale); along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilton A. Herring, Jr. and her mother, Jane B. Wells.
The family will receive friends and loved ones Sunday, January 21st, 2024 between 4pm EST and 6pm EST at Thompson Funeral Home on Augusta Hwy. There will be a Christian funeral service held at the Basilica of Saint Peter Catholic Church on Assembly St. on Monday, January 22nd, 2024 at 10am EST. Following the service, there will be a gathering at the church and burial at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Percival Rd. at 2pm EST.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital Memphis, TN in her honor.
