Obituary of George Hunter, Jr.

    George “Rise” Hunter, Jr., son of the late George Hunter, Sr. and Adell “Nixon” Hunter was born on April 24, 1949, in Clayton, North Carolina. George gained his heavenly wings and transitioned from earth to glory on May 29, 2018.

    George attended and graduated from William Mason Cooper High School class of 1967. He later joined the United States Army.  George traveled to various parts of the world while serving his country. After serving 25 years in the United States Army, George retired with the rank of a Staff Sergeant. Upon retiring, he continued his dedicated work to the military community by working as a civilian with newly enlisted soldiers at Fort Jackson’s Military Entrance Processing Station.

     George leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 37 years Debbie “Demand” Hunter, his children Lyndsey Hunter, of New York, Shonn Hunter of Columbia, South Carolina, Tina Hunter Barbour and Scottie Hunter of Raleigh, NC and Chris Hunter of Selma, NC; six grandchildren, two Sisters Louise Bridges (Melvin) and Joyce Watson both of Clayton, NC, three sisters-in-law Sandra Demand of Massachusetts, Donna Kahle of Georgia, and Gail Demand of Columbia, SC, and one brother-in-law George Demand as well as a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted to celebrate George’s life on Wednesday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Columbia, SC with a military burial to follow at noon at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
