Batesburg—Gerald G. Brown, son of the late Sherman Brown and Zella Weekley Brown, passed away on Monday, May 8th, 2018. Gabby (Papaw) was born on August 8th, 1938 in Calhoun County, West Virginia. Gerald was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Reba J. Brown, mother and father, Zella and Sherman, and sister, Helen Tanner. He is survived by his sister, Sharon Nesbitt and brother, James “Jim” Brown. His legacy will live on through his two children, daughter, Anita Gabel-Brechko (Brian) and son, Gerald “Gerry” Brown (Dean); his five grandchildren, Josh Gabel (Kylee), Haley Turner (Perry), Daniel Gabel, Crystal Lawson, and Henry Rabon; and eight great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Harvey Gabel, Lucas Turner, Gabe Barrett, Blake Lawson, Chet, Leila, and Jaxon Rabon.
He was an avid mechanic and sportsman. Gabby worked for PPG in Barberton, Ohio for the better part of 30 years before relocating to Eastover, South Carolina in the late 1980’s. He worked at International Paper as a Machinist and Maintenance Technician until his retirement in the early 2000’s. In his retirement, he very much enjoyed time fishing and spending time on his tractor in the woods. Papaw loved every second of the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in seeing all he taught them help them become successful in their lives.
