Obituary of Nancy H. Newcome

Nancy H. Newcome, 91, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on May 1, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 21, 1927 in Kershaw County, SC to the late Clyde and Florence Barfield Horton. An avid reader, Nancy enjoyed gardening, traveling, sewing, and floral arrangement. During World War II, Nancy was a bookkeeper at the Baptist Bookstore and met her husband in 1945 at Five Points in Columbia.

Nancy is survived by her husband of almost 72 years, Roy Newcome Jr.; 1 daughter, Ramona Shepherd (Ricky); 1 daughter-in-law, Carrie Newcome; 3 grandsons, Graham Shepherd (Anita), Wesley Newcome (Ali), Ryan Newcome; 1 granddaughter, Laura Newcome; 2 brothers, Robert E. Horton (Joyce) and James C. Horton; 1 sister, Joyce Ann McLean (Kenneth).

She was preceded in death by her son, Retired USAF Lt. Col. Laurence Roe Newcome and her sister, Vera K. Cockrell.

The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on May 4, 2018 from 6:00PM- 8:00PM. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM on May 5, 2018 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Pastor David Knapp officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
