Obituary of Dumah Hammond

WEST COLUMBIA-Dumah Frye Hammond, 94, died Sunday, February 6, 2011, at National Health Care in Lexington. She was born February 5, 1917, in New Brookland, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Lauritha Hook Frye. She is now celebrating with God and her beloved husband of fifty-four years, Fletcher Otto "Nick" Hammond, one day after her 94th birthday. Mrs. Hammond and her family joined Northside Baptist Church in November of 1953, where she was an active member of the Sunday School, the WMU, Senior Choir and the XYZ. She was an active part of her children's lives in school, community, and the church. She is survived by her daughters, Maxine Nunamaker of Logansville, GA, and Judy Laney of Bishopville, SC; one sister, Pearl F. Dennis of West Columbia; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Hammond, granddaughter, Suzanne M. Laney, and a brother, Molton Frye. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Northside Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Steve Allen and Rev. Dr. Lonnie Shull. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Nunamaker, Jason Laney, Tyler Hopkins, Todd Miller, Cody Hopkins, and Phil Dennis. Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church Global Missions, 5326 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, SC 29169. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.
