Obituary of Cornelia Spires

PELION—Funeral services for Cornelia Poole Spires "Neal", 77, of Pelion will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at Wayside Baptist Tabernacle in Pelion, SC. Officiating will be Rev. Grover "Buckshot" Williams and Rev. Earl Hartley. Burial will follow in King Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Swansea. Pallbearers will be Tony Rucker, David Rucker, Chad Rawls, Heath Zimmerman, Shawn Zimmerman and Trevor Zimmerman. The family will receive friends from 6-9 Sunday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Wayside Baptist Tabernacle-General Fund, 205 Pine Street, Pelion, SC 29123. Mrs. Spires, widow of Lucoe Spires, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011. Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Ida Bell Poole. She was a lifetime area resident and a member of King Grove Baptist Church. She worked with Salley Manufacturing, Salley, SC and South Carolina Dept. of Transportation. Surviving are her children, Rep. Kit Spires, Karen Spires and Randy Spires all of Pelion; grandchild, Kristina Parker (Nick) of Lexington and 2 step-grandchildren, Kevin Reece and Jason Bordeaux; sister, Mozelle Friedenthal of Columbia.
