Obituary of James Spires

James Robert Spires GILBERT:Funeral service for James Robert "Darling" Spires, 84, formerly of Bamberg, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Rev. Bobby Williams and Rev. Wilton Scruggs. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Serving as Pallbearers will be Donald Bowen, Jody Bowen, Jonathan Bowen, Shawn Martin, Allen Spires and Jason Steedley. Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Glover and Erin Spires. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. this (THURSDAY) evening at the funeral home. Mr. Spires, husband of Hattie Spires, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Born in Bamberg, SC, he was a son of the late Elvin Eugene Spires and Jo Mae Carroll Spires. He was a member of St. Matthew's Church of God. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII; and was a DAV from WWII, Chapter 33. Mr. Spires was a retired truck driver. Surviving are his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Hattie Spires of Gilbert; daughters, Linda (Marvin) Taylor of Prosperity, Tricia (Byron) Gunnells of Gilbert, Cathy (Tommy) Gainey of Gilbert and Ashley Erin Spires of St. Matthews; sons, Larry (Rosemary) Spires of Vance, Donnie Spires of Cleveland, TN and Jimmy (Cathy) Spires of St. Matthews; brother, Edward Spires of Islandton, SC; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
