James J. "Jim" Owens LEESVILLE:After a long battle with cancer, Jim, 56, passed on Thursday, May 5, 2011, to go be with the Father after living a truly blessed Life. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, whom he loved dearly. Born in Ulm, Germany, on August 6, 1954, he was the son of the late James and Renate Owens. Jim was employed by Gregory Electric as a job superintendent. That was a great job because of the people he got to meet and interact with. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force services and of the Christian Faith Community; he was baptized at the Southern Methodist Church. Surviving Jim, along with his wife, are his brothers; Gene from Florence, Mike and his wife, Dianne, from Elgin, and their children, Link and Brooklyn, her children, John Danko, IV and Dovie Joann from Arizona; his step-sons, Scott Hickman, his children, Joshua and Madison, Alan Hickman, and his wife, Paige and their children, Kaitlyn, Savannah, Ashton and Zachary, his step-daughter, Shannon Hutto, her children, Calvin and John David. Services for Jim will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Chaplain Jim McMillan and Mr. Bob Livingston. Burial will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Durant Glenn, Shawn Russell, Link Owens, Terry Hicks, Josh Kyzer, Cecil Foster, Jan Hallman and Donnie Reynolds. Honorary pallbearer will be Danny Stewart. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 until 3 p. m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the SCOA, Care Foundation, P.O. Box 2046, Attn: Meredith Anderson, West Columbia, SC 29171. The family would like to express our love and thanks to Dr. Mustaq and Mrs. Linda at SCOA and the Regency Hospice nurses for their care at the end of Jim's fight.
