Obituary of Bonnie Horne

Bonnie Cleo Horne WEST COLUMBIA: Our beloved Bonnie Cleo Horne, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 87, passed peacefully into eternal life on September 12, 2011, at Laurel Crest of West Columbia, SC. She was a native of Union County, NC, daughter of the late Burdette and Wilma H. Crowell of Indian Trail, NC. Mrs. Horne was first married to Roy F. Fowler of Monroe, NC, a U.S. Marine who was killed in the Pacific during WWII. Two children were born of this marriage, a daughter, Brenda Gayle F. Poole and a son, Roy F. Fowler, Jr., both of Mint Hill, NC. A second marriage was to Cletus W. S. Horne, who survives her. Their marriage lasted 66 years, until the death of Mrs. Horne. Two additional children were born, Daniel C. "Hank" Horne and Bonnie Jean H. Page both of Lexington, SC. The four children survive her plus six grandchildren and six great grandchildren who she dearly loved. Also surviving are four sisters, Lucille Clontz and Joyce Derrick, both of Indian Trail, NC, Jeanne Russell of Matthews, NC and Eloise Ellis of Monroe, NC. Three brothers predeceased her, Roland Crowell and Joe Crowell of Indian Trail, NC and Tom Crowell of Matthews, NC. Mrs. Horne was a loyal member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lexington, SC, where she served as one of the principal organizers of the church library, a continuing member of the visitation committee and an active participant in the Hilltoppers senior adult group. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2011, in Zion Lutheran Church, 226 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC at 3:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, September 14, 2011, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Rd., Lexington, SC 29073. Memorials may be made to the Zion Building Fund or to a charity of one's choice.
