Obituary of IE Dixon

A Celebration of Life Service for I.E. ?Gene? Dixon, Sr., U.S. Navy (Retired), 81, of Columbia will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Coy Carter and Pastor John Lopez officiating. The family will receive friends from 10a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home on Friday. Private inurnment in Greenlawn Memorial Park will be held at a later date. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to SCOA Cares in I.E. ?Gene? Dixon?s memory. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Mr. Dixon, affectionately known by his many friends as ?Gene?, departed this earthly life to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. He was born on April 10, 1930 in Blackshear, GA to the late Noah Adam Dixon and Bessie Estelle Dixon. Mr. Dixon was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Blackshear, GA. He retired as director of motor vehicle inspections of the SC Department of Motor Vehicles in 1992. He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Cassie ?Louell? Dixon. Surviving are a daughter, Dawn A. (Scott) Plexico; three sons, Jimmy D. (Nancy) Dixon, Ira E. Dixon, Jr. and Matthew A. (Dianne) Dixon; six grandchildren, Kathy Nowland, Adrian Dixon, Mark Dixon, Katherine Plexico, John Dixon, and Laura Plexico; a sister, Bonnie Murray of Stark, FL; and a brother, Jasper Dixon of Waycross, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
