Obituary of C. Collins

CAYCE - C.E. "Ed" Collins passed peacefully after an extended illness on Sunday, January 16, 2011. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011, in Boyce Chapel, First Baptist Church of Columbia. Officiating will be the Rev. Jere Wilson. Burial will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, at 1 p.m. with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. prior to the service. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family.Mr. Collins was born in Roanoke, VA, later moving to Norfolk, VA, to the late John Lee and Mary Luttrell Collins. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, where he received an honorable discharge due to wounds inflicted. He was in the car business for over 50 years and retired due to failing health. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia, where he was an inactive deacon.Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Verna McLane Collins; son, Brian Nickolas Collins and his wife, Jennifer Cosby Collins, one grandson, Jackson Alexander Collins; and a sister, Essie Mae Coogler, Springfield, OH; also a number of nieces and nephews.A special thanks to the staff at Dorn VA Medical Center, especially the staff in Saluda Village and Dr. Steedman Sarbah in their care of Mr. Collins during his last days.
