Obituary of Mary Saylor

SWANSEA Mary Jenelle "Nell" Rucker Saylor, age 84, of Swansea passed away Friday, September 17, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Saylor, the daughter of the late Harold Wesley Rucker and Ada Beatrice Amaker Rucker. She was born September 3, 1926 in Calhoun County, South Carolina. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and Calvary United Methodist Women. She received recognition as the Calvary United Methodist Women's Woman of the Year in 1998. After the deaths of her parents, Mrs. Saylor lived most of her childhood years at Epworth Children's Home in Columbia. Before her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator. After the birth of her children, she worked part-time as a sales clerk at several department stores and as a Weight-Watcher's counselor. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a caring friend. She was affectionately known as "Nanny Nell" by her granddaughters.Funeral service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church in Swansea, SC on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Bruce Rucker will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the residence of her son, Wayne Saylor, 1385 St. Matthews Road in Swansea.Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne R. and Joyce R. Saylor of Swansea; daughter, Sandra L. Saylor of Orangeburg; sister, Hilma B. Rucker residing in Pelion; granddaughter, Lora "Wendy" Williams of Swansea. She was predeceased by her husband, Furman P.
