Obituary of Luther Bernard

CAYCE - Graveside service for Luther Bernard Ray, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, in Southland Memorial Gardens, officiated by Rev. Torrie Osgood. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010, at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 2062 S. Beltline Blvd., Columbia, SC 29204 or to Harvest Hope Food Bank, 2220 Shop Rd., Columbia, SC 29201.Mr. Ray died Wednesday, September 29, 2010. Born in Jefferson, GA, he was a son of the late Hugh Ray and Jerusha Bowden Ray. He was a member of First Christian Church; and was retired from Pacific Columbia Mills. Mr. Ray was a U.S. WWII Army Veteran.Survivors are his daughters, Marilyn Jane Ray Miller of Dawsonville, GA, and Ramona Ann Ray Shumpert of Lexington, SC; sons, William Franklin Ray and Gary Bernard Ray both of Cayce; sister, Doris Gooch; brother, Hollis Ray, and half-brother, Louie Toney; also a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
