WEST COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Lawrence Edward """Ted""" Lawson, 80, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Grady Harmon Jr. Entombment will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Sweargen, J. Sweargen, Raymond Herrin, Jessie Monts, Don Phelps, Ed Sweargen and Chuck Funderburk. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service, from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church, and visitors may also come by at the home of Vermelle Lawson. Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse Baptist Church, Building Fund, 325 Church St., West Columbia, SC 29172. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. Mr. Lawson, widower of Betty Wingo Lawson, died Thursday, September, 30, 2010. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Clyde Laverne Lawson and Lillie Mae Harris Lawson. He was a graduate of B.C. High School in 1950, he then joined the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, earning four stars while serving on a Destroyer Mine Sweep. After the service, he then went to U.S.C. Mr. Lawson was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Jamil Temple. He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Men""'s Sunday School Class. Survivors are his sister-in-law, Vermelle S. Lawson; nephews, Jack Lawson Jr. (Paula), Michael Lawson, Mark Lawson (Pam), David Adams (Debbi) and Stephen Lawson (Lesley); also a number of great-nieces and nephews. M.
