Obituary of Barbara Flake

CAYCE - Funeral services for Barbara Flake, 70, of Cayce, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Westside Holiness Church at 526 Augusta Street, West Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. J.E. Jeffcoat. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia will be assisting the family.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.Mrs. Flake, loving wife of John Millard Flake, Sr., passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010. Born in Toronto, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Jack Chapman and Jean Elizabeth Roberts Chapman. She was a longtime area resident and a member of Westside Holiness Church. She retired as a beautician in 1988. She was instrumental in starting a card ministry at her church and loved spending time with her family. She was a devoted Christian and devoted her life to telling others about the love of Jesus Christ.Surviving in addition to her husband of 21 years, John Flake, Sr. of Cayce; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Spires Porter (Eddie) of West Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Jamie Spires (Candice) of Leesville; brother, Brian John Hoile of West Columbia; five step-children; five grandchildren, Hannah and Olivia Porter, Savanna, Kaylie and Jacob Spires; 13 stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Eddie Williams, Dr. Reid Tribble and Dr. Leland McElveen.
