WEST COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Thomas Lowell """Tom""" Gainey, 87, will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 23, 2010, at Pineview Baptist Church Sanctuary of West Columbia, officiated by Rev. Brandon Sandifer. Interment will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 ""' 5 p.m., Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Pineview Baptist Church, 3010 Leaphart Rd., West Columbia, SC 29169.Mr. Gainey, loving husband of Alva S. Gainey, died Thursday, August 19, 2010. Born in Bishopville, SC, on November 23, 1922, he was a son of the late James Lowell Gainey and Fannie Mae Howle Gainey of Hartsville, SC. He was a charter member of Pineview Baptist Church. Mr. Gainey loved his church and was very active; he was a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, a substitute teacher for his Sunday School Class and was also a member of the church choir. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII; a member of the Sinclair Masonic Lodge #154, where he served as Chaplain for 22 years, the American Legion, and the Woodmen of the World. Mr. Gainey enjoyed the outdoors; he loved camping and gardening and enjoyed traveling; and loved his family and home.Survivors include his loving spouse of 65 years, Alva S. Gainey of West Columbia; daughters, Mary G. McGee (Joel) of Ward and Connie G. Burth (Bob) of Easley; son, Thomas L. """Tom""" Gainey, Jr., (Peggy) of Columbia; a brother, Jack A. Gainey (Jean) of Carrollton, GA; eight grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
