Obituary of Walter Ervin

NORTH - Services for Walter Clifton 'Cliff' Ervin, 92, of North, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Officiating will be Rev. Lenny Himes. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 520 Gervais Street, Ste. 300, Columbia, SC 29201.Mr. Ervin died Thursday, December 16, 2010. Born in Gaines, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James E. Ervin and Lucy Young Ervin. He was of the Methodist Faith. Mr. Ervin was a retired bus driver with 30 years of service with Greyhound Corp. He was a former part-time employee with Hertz Rental Cars. He was a member of The Amalgamated Transit Union #1052 for 60 years.Surviving are his wife, Vernell G. Ervin of North; daughter, Mary Holterhoff of Bristol, PA; sons, Walter C. Ervin, Jr. of Florida, David C. Ervin of Langhorne, PA, and James C. Ervin of Columbus, OH; sister, Lola Hollen (Paul) of Isle of Palms; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
