Obituary of Frederick Davis

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Frederick W.G. Davis, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Daniel Burbage. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Al Gheesling, Jay Sox, Doug Hendley, Steve Pitts, Roy Gibson and Van Hobbs Jr. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 2001 Assembly St., Columbia, SC 29201 or to COPD Foundation, 2937 S.W. 27th Ave., Ste. 302, Miami, FL 33133. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family. Mr. Davis died Monday, September 13, 2010. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late William M. Davis and Louise Green Davis. He attended St. Mark United Methodist Church. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. Mr. Davis also served as an organist at a number of churches. Survivors include cousins, Mildred Spires Hendley, Virginia Spires Gheesling, Jean Spires Sox, Mildred G. Bouknight, Melba G. Gibbons and Pat G. Norman.
