Obituary of William Silas

William Silas ?Si? Turbeville, Jr., 62, of Irmo, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2010. Born in Columbia, Nov. 7, 1947, Mr. Turbeville was the son of the late William S. and Agnes Hendrick Turbeville. He graduated from Clemson University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged, having attained the rank of first lieutenant. Mr. Turbeville?s career in planning and construction included positions at Reed, Fleming & Associates; The University of South Carolina School of Medicine; and the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. He expertly honed the Turbeville family tradition of Eastern North Carolina-style ?Puddin? Swamp? barbecue. Mr. Turbeville was a beloved, honorable and respected son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle who will be sorely missed. He is survived by his brother, David Stanley (Debbie) Turbeville; niece, Lauren Turbeville (Adam) Way; nephews, Brady Davis (Alicia) Weed, III; Donald Travis (Allison) Weed; and William Scott Turbeville; two great-nieces and five great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Vickie Lynn Turbeville. Funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, with interment following at Greenlawn Cemetery.
