Obituary of CCMSgt James

CCMSgt James D. Lovette (Doug) passed away January 23, 2011. Born April 9, 1934, he was the son of the late Humphrey and Aurie (Parker) Lovette. He began his military career when he enlisted in the US Army on October 4, 1954 where he served until November 19, 1956. Chief Lovette joined the South Carolina Air National Guard on November 19, 1956 and served until his retirement on January 15, 1993. During his long and dedicated career with the SCANG, he was selected as the Outstanding Guardsman of the Year for the State of South Carolina in 1982 and again in 1986. He was also selected as the Air National Guard Base Level Personnel Superintendent of the Year in both 1984 and 1987. He served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the SCANG from July 1, 1990 until his retirement on January 15, 1993. He was an active member of Lexington Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He loved the Lord, never met a stranger, and it gave him great joy to serve both God and his fellow man. He was a loving family man and friend to many and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Grace Phillips Lovette, 4 children, Myra L. (David) Brown, James D. (Bobie) Lovette, Jr., Virginia L. (Gina) Lovette (Ken), and Amy E. Lovette, 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a sister, Martha Jordan. He was affectionately known as Papa to all. Services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow immediately after at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the funeral home.
