Obituary of Virginia Griffin

Virginia Adams Griffin WEST COLUMBIA:Funeral service for Virginia Nell Adams Griffin, 94, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Brookland United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. J. Wayne Smith, Jr. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Griffin's nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. this (TUESDAY) evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Mrs. Griffin will be placed in church 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Brookland United Methodist Church Building Fund, 541 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Mrs. Griffin, widow of Henry Griffin, died Sunday, February 13, 2011. Born in Elberton, GA, she was a daughter of the late Brewer Tate Adams and Bertha Rhoades Adams. She cared for five generations of children in her own childcare business; was a member of Brookland United Methodist Church, where she was a nursery worker for 29 years; a member of the Genevieve Kleckley Circle and of the Young at Heart, and the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class. Surviving are: her son, Edwin Brewer Griffin (Mary); sister, Shelby Gaines; brother, Woodrow Adams; three grandchildren, grandsons, Edwin Todd (Val) and David Brewer; granddaughter, Kimberly Phillips (Andrew), two great grandchildren, Blayton Andrew Phillips and Abigail Virginia Phillips; also her caregiver, Mary Boney. Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by son, Patrick Griffin, sister, Fanny Elizabeth Adams, brother, James Adams, sister, Brenda Outz and brother, William Adams.
